William "Buck" Utz, Structures and Grounds Shop, Facilities Services

Colleagues of Mr. Utz, a valued team member of the Structures and Grounds Shop, are grieving his passing earlier today, Thursday, May 29. He was employed in his current position for 11 years.

Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, June 1 at 5 p.m. with the service following at 6 p.m. at The Life Church, 11234 Balls Ford Road, Manassas, VA 20109.

Malinda Goodwyn, Retired Teacher from Lake Ridge Middle and Rippon Middle Schools

Mrs. Goodwyn retired in 2006 after 32 years, 17 of which she devoted to students at Lake Ridge Middle School as a special education teacher and special education department chair. She previously had taught at Rippon Middle School. Her friends and former colleagues remember her fondly and extend condolences to her family.

Joseph I. Pace, Teacher at Triangle Elementary School

Mr. Pace taught over the past 25 years at the Fredericksburg Academy, Rockledge Elementary and was preparing to retire from teaching his third grade class at Triangle Elementary. Ellis B. Hawkins, July 23, 1929-March 10, 2014, Former School Board Chairman

Mr. Hawkins served as chairman of the Prince William County School Board from July 1972 through June 1976. Under Mr. Hawkins’ tenure, Prince William County Public Schools ended racial segregation of schools, opened and created kindergarten programs for pre-school boys and girls, and opened numerous new schools, including Osbourn Park, Woodbridge, and Stonewall Jackson High Schools; Kerrydale, Minnieville, Rockledge, and Sudley Elementary Schools; and Ann Ludwig and New Dominion schools.

Visitation will be held at the Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home and Crematory, 4143 Dale Boulevard, Dale City, Virginia on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 1400 G Street, Woodbridge, Virginia on Wednesday, March 26, 2014, at 11 a.m. 

Betty Kilby, wife of R. Dean Kilby (the individual Kilby Elementary School was named after) died on March 20, 2014. Betty Garrett Kilby, age 77, passed away very peacefully, surrounded by her family, on March 20, 2014. Read more.

William Stephens Jr., Retired Teacher, Assistant Principal, and Principal at PWCS Schools

Mr. Stephens passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. He joined PWCS in 1967 as a biology and chemistry teacher at Woodbridge High School where he later served as assistant principal. He was principal of Fred M. Lynn Middle School from 1982-1990 and retired in 1991 as principal of Beville Middle School.

A wake and viewing will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014, 6-8 p.m. at A. L. Bennett & Son Funeral Home, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Viewing & funeral services will take place at United Faith Christian Ministry, 150 Susa Drive, Stafford, Virginia, on Monday, February 3, 2014. Viewing will be at 10 a.m. and funeral services at 11 a.m. Burial will take place at Quantico National Cemetery at 1:30 p.m. Repast will follow the burial at the church. View obituary.

Mr. Latalladi passed away Monday, October 14, 2013. Mr. “L,” as his students knew him, taught physics and math at Woodbridge High School for more than 25 years.

Jerline Sanders (Jeri), PWCS Social Worker

Mrs. Jerline Sanders (Jeri) passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2013 due to a sudden illness. Jeri began working for PWCS in 1989 at the Juvenile Detention Center and later as a visiting teacher for the Office of Special Education and the Office of Student Services. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 14. The viewing will begin at 11 a.m. followed by the service at noon. The service will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church, 18410 Chapel St., Triangle, VA 22172, phone: 703.221.6960.
